The Speak Up Speak Out series creates a forum for civic engagement and democratic discourse for the campus community of Central Michigan University.  Guided by the values of active citizenship, critical thinking, and civility in disagreement, each forum educates participants in key facts and values at stake in a current events topic and facilitates an open and critical exchange of views on the issues.

The series has regularly presented six or more forums each year since 2000, through the work of an organizing committee of faculty, staff, and students.  I have been an organizer for the series since 2010 and chair of the committee since 2013.
