Eisenhower’s Farewell Address: Former U.S. president, Dwight D. Eisenhower, warned in his last speech in office of what he called the “disastrous rise of misplaced power” among the vested interests at work in the relationship between the demand of the military establishment and its suppliers in the arms industry. This “military-industrial complex,” Eisenhower worried, had come to have undue influence over American public policy, with the potential to create economic and political incentives for the unnecessary use of the U.S. military machine.
